One of my personal standards as an Executive in the software industry is doing physical exercise for at least 30min per day, as suggested by the WHO (world health organization)
As a Digital Executive I believe in numbers. I truly believe that only things that get measured get managed. And finally make the difference in business as well as in private life. This is why I have this project of running 500km (310.69m) per quarter in 2019 going on. Usually early in the morning, prior to work.
In my previous post, I talked about motivation problems at the beginning of the quarter. Now, that we have reached the middle of Q3/2019, I want to give a quick update on my High Performance journey.
For me, achieving a private goal is just the same as a achieving a business goal. In fact achieving these physical exercise goals are for me the base that allows, achieving High Performance in business.
I had mentioned that I started Q3 better than Q2 which was motivating and I ended up with 152km (94.45m) in July. The plan for the rest of the quarter is:
- 180km (111.85m) in August, as it is warm enough to run outside…
- 168km (104.39m) as minimum for September for achieving the 500km (310.69m) goal in Q3
Measuring progress is key for me and so I am happy to report, that I have achieved 96,68km (60.07m) today (August 15th.) which is 53.71% of August goal π Kind of interesting is the chart below, from a motivation standpoint:
As the goal was important enough to me, I was obviously able to double the effort (distance in this case) for four days in a row.
Sounds like quarter’s end in biz when going the extra mile to get the remaining deals in, doesn’t it? π Was it always nice? Actually not at all, as for two days it was windy, rainy and ugly, however at least it was warm enough to run outside…and so it is true in biz and in private life: what’s measured gets managed!
Oh and of course you don’t meet anyone at all on those rainy days, compared to when it’s sunny and easy… π
