As a Digital Executive in the software industry, I sometimes experience motivation problems after a success, e.g a successful quarter. In business and as well in private life. Professional and personal development are very important to me and I see personal standards like exercising on a regular basis, a healthy sleep rhythm and drinking enough water every day, as the base for an active and high performing life.
I have started 2019 by setting a personal goal of running 500km (310.69m) in Q1, more than I had ever done before.
After achieving this, I felt really proud and of course – wanted more… ๐ How about doing it again ? I like the phrase โhow do you eat an elephant? Answer: bite by biteโ, and so I just started Q2. And ran into massive motivation problems, which resulted in 122km (75.81 miles) in April. This made the goal for Q2 really difficult. I did achieve Q2 eventually, but it was way harder than expected. So, what to do for the future?
As a Business Executive, I’m motivated by numbers ๐ and so, I decided to introduce a minimum number of kilometers (running) per month. In my case 150km (93.21m) as this would increase the likelihood of achieving the quarterly goal of 500km in these weaker months. Oh and meanwhile the goal is to achieve it for all of 2019 ๐
Today, I am happy to report that in July 2019, I did 152.47km, which is almost 25% more than in April ๐ This makes my personal Q3 way more realistic!
I find the proverb โwhatโs measured gets managedโ very true. For me, the introduction of the new goal made it happen… Just like in business ๐
