As a C-Level Executive in software Iโm very used to goals with several components e.g a sales number plus improving customer satisfaction. In 2019 I had set a personal goal of running 2000 km. The day I crossed the 2000km line was a very rewarding one, motivation wise. Iโm proud to report that this motivation/developing positive habits project worked really well:
I finished 2019 with a total of running 2027km which I am very proud of. I have never done this much before in my life. Not even close… ๐
I was able to make it happen as I gave it the right priority. I handled it like in business with quarterly and monthly goals. From a motivation standpoint this is very important to me. Meanwhile daily exercising has become a habit which actually fits well into business traveling. Almost every business hotel has a gym and using jetlag related sleeping issues for some physical activity makes the whole trip actually easier for me…
Of course I want to keep this personal High Performance Level that Iโve reached.
Not only in business, in private life as well
As the level is quite high already, I donโt want to raise it much but still make it a bit of a challenge for motivation reasons. So the big question is:
What personal goals are appropriate for 2020?
Of course I want them smart ๐ (s)pecific-(m)easurable-(a)chievable-(r)ealistic- (t)imely phased.
Here is what I came up with: in 2020
I will be burning 1,000,000 calories meaning about 2740 per day
I like the 1,000,000cal goal since it allows other physical activities beside running as well. And since exercising every day is also a big motivation topic, this is definitely helpful ๐ Currently the gyms are full with people who sign up in January and drop off in March.
In Business happy customers buy more and therefore I want to establish a second personal goal as well. As I still like running Iโm introducing a second measure of
Running a minimum of 1200km in 2020, 100km per month
A happy, healthy and successful 2020 to everyone !
